Differences Between Baidu SEO and Google SEO

Baidu is the leader in Chinese search engines, and Google is the leader in world search engines.

In terms of page updates, Google is much faster than Baidu. Generally, if you create a keyword page, Google will index it the next day or even faster, and it will have a good ranking. However, maintaining that position is not easy. In the following days, if your content readability is not high, Google’s ranking will gradually decline until you can’t find it. Baidu is much slower at indexing keyword pages and the review is more strict, but once your keyword page is indexed and achieves a good ranking, that position will be yours for a long time, unless your website is penalized or caught cheating.

Baidu dominates the vast majority of the Chinese search market. As the big brother, Google started a bit late but is certainly not willing to fall behind. Google is now actively trying to squeeze into the Chinese search market.

Baidu dominates the vast majority of the Chinese search market. As the big brother, Google started a bit late but is certainly not willing to fall behind. Google is now actively trying to squeeze into the Chinese search market. With its strong technical backing and excellent performance, Google is determined to grab a share of the Chinese search market. The official claim is that Google currently holds 20% of Chinese search, but based on my observation, it doesn’t quite reach that number, probably only around ten percent. Google still has a long way to go.

At the technical level, Baidu and Google each have their own characteristics, and the search results are also different. Google appears more objective in search results, especially when searching for technical articles, where results are more precise. Baidu focuses more on the search habits of Chinese netizens, with more popularized search results. This is why technical personnel prefer Google, while Baidu appeals more to the general public.

When indexing websites, Baidu and Google are also different.

Baidu indexes new sites relatively quickly. For a typical new site, if the homepage is indexed, most pages of the entire website will be indexed in a very short time, which makes some webmasters ecstatic. But don’t be too happy too early. In the following period, Baidu will strictly review your website, analyzing the content and readability. If most of your website content is reprinted or collected, your index count will drop sharply very soon.

Google’s website indexing process is a relatively gradual progression. It will review all articles on your website from the beginning, analyze the value of articles, and selectively index them. This process continues, and the index count won’t fluctuate much, maintaining an upward trend, unless your website cheats or is penalized. Generally, Google’s index count is larger than Baidu’s.

I won’t go into detail about how to do SEO here, as there are many such articles online. Here, I’ll just talk about some differences between Baidu and Google in SEO techniques.

Regarding TITLE tags, Baidu is more friendly to titles containing multiple keywords than Google. When optimizing www.zhaojian.net, I conducted an experiment. Initially, I only used one keyword in the TITLE. After a period of optimization, this word ranked third on Baidu and second on Google. Then I added 4 more related keywords to the TITLE. A few days later, 3 of these 5 keywords ranked on Baidu’s first page, while Google’s original second-ranking word dropped to the second page, and the other keywords couldn’t be found in the first 5 pages. Many people say it’s best to have only one keyword in the TITLE, but I think if your content is original, highly relevant, and your website has good authority, you can definitely write 4-5 or even more keywords in the TITLE, so these related keywords can all achieve good rankings on Baidu, though Google may not.

Additionally, external links play a crucial role in the entire optimization process. The more keyword external links you have and the higher their quality, the better ranking you’ll achieve on both Baidu and Google. This is very prominent on my website. Due to work reasons, I haven’t managed this website for a long time, but I still occasionally build some high-quality external links. Now this website’s keywords rank first on both Baidu and Google.

Many people find significant differences between Baidu and Google results when doing SEO optimization. Whether you want to win over one or find a balance between the two is something you need to weigh. Currently, most traffic comes from Baidu, but no one can predict what the future holds.
