Restore UltraEdit-32 to Initial Default Configuration

Technology ~1030 words · 3 min read - views

Today I accidentally messed up UltraEdit-32. No matter how I tried to set the fonts, they wouldn’t go back, and the menus were all messed up too. So I wanted to restore all settings to default.

Reinstalling UltraEdit-32, cleaning the registry - none of it worked, the settings just wouldn’t change.

I came to a conclusion that there must be a fixed location on the computer storing UltraEdit-32’s configuration information.

But where is this location? Fortunately, I finally found the answer!

The answer is in UltraEdit-32’s help documentation, which states: “Configurable menu data is stored by default in the uedit32.mnu file in the IDM Comp\UltraEdit folder under the %APPDATA% directory. (For UEStudio, this file is in the UEStudio directory, not the UltraEdit directory).”

Open “%APPDATA%” (without quotes, copy to address bar, then press Enter), then find and open the “IDM Comp” folder, delete the entire “UltraEdit” folder inside, then reopen UltraEdit-32 and you’ll find it’s back to its freshly installed state!
