Farewell, Google.

I saw the news late at night. What impressed me this time was Tencent News - despite their usual typos, they actually published such timely information today. This morning I typed in g.cn as usual, but as expected, what I saw was no longer the familiar Google China interface, but a redirect to www.google.com.hk. I knew Google had really left this time.

Seeing those angry youth online who know nothing but blindly display nationalism is truly pathetic. They have no idea how much Google has contributed to the internet, nor do they know that Baidu is actually an American-funded company. Baidu is registered in the British Cayman Islands, founder Robin Li holds a US green card, Baidu’s startup capital came from American venture capital, and American capital now owns over 51% of Baidu’s shares - so Baidu is a genuine American-funded company.

All these years, the materials for my studies and research have been provided by Google, because I never believed Baidu could find what I wanted beyond viruses, trojans, and spam websites. If Google left because China’s internet isn’t open, then it’s truly sad for our country - we’re actually living in an incredibly “harmonious” local area network. If there are political factors involved, I’d also feel sad for Google, because they underestimated their presence in the Chinese market.
